The Benefits of Turmeric

 Subscribe in a reader

Since my younger days, I have the passion of  gardening. Now that I am running towards 60"s the passion is still there. An old  herb caught my attention which many doctors and scientist focus their eyes in it. The wonder of TURMERIC( Curcuma longa ) . a spice at same time now is a potential  cure of different kinds of infections and cancer. It has been used to treat different kinds of illnesses.

Year 2002, I visited my sister in Sacramento. With my love of gardening, I used my free early morning time for gardening in her backyard. I was incidentally stepped into a sharp object. And good that I brought powder of turmeric from the Philippines. I put the wounded part of my feet with the turmeric powder. Amazingly in three days it was healed. I did not suffer of that wound.

Now it is found out that Turmeric has many  Health  Benefits

1.  Has long been used in Chinese medicine as a treatment for
     depression.
2.  It is a natural antiseptic and antibacterial agent, useful in
disinfecting cuts and burns.  (This was my experienced of the
     healing power of turmeric ).
3  Prevented breast cancer from spreading to the lungs.
4.  May prevent melanoma and cause existing melanoma cells to commit suicide.
5.  May prevent metastases from occurring in many different forms of cancer.
6.  May prevent and slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease by
removing amylase plaque buildup in  the   brain.
 7. Is a natural liver detoxifier.
8.  May help in the treatment of psoriasis and other inflammatory
     skin conditions.
9.  Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, it is a natural
treatment for arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
10. It is a potent natural anti-inflammatory that works as well as
anti-inflammatory drugs but without the side effects.

Today turmeric is   taken in powder or pill available in health
     stores  in  capsules .

My parents started using turmeric during World War II. Turmeric is our basic medicine in the family. My mother dried turmeric roots for emergency needs for what ever sickness would come to us.
Since then, we don't run out of planting turmeric and this time I even increase in volume.

IS THERE A HOPE TO THE PHILIPPINES AND FILIPINOS?

 Subscribe in a reader

Two nights more to go is Philippines election day. Many Filipinos who are lovers of politician both nation local are busy campaigning  for the last hours for their  beat. What a funny but sad Philippine political scenario.
Days before election many  groceries stores got a good income of their sold noodles. Noodles are  the cheapest means of enticing votes in favor to a particular candidate. There are lucky ones received bigger enticement, and that is receiving a bigger amount of money where a portion of it will be distributed to their friends and neighbors in favor of a candidate.  Our candidates save much before election or during their office terms and spend much during election campaign. This is the Philippine Politics. This scenario  reflects the political immaturity of many of us Filipinos, including myself. We will not point and blame to politicians but we have also look our voters. Vice versa. Why they become such kind of politicians? First and foremost, we allow them to become such kind of politicians. In other hand, politicians took advantage of the immaturity and the political uneducated people for the their vested interest. Many Filipinos are like starve species who will radically grab any thing thrown unto them during election period. Having feed and with "utang na loob" eventually they can choose the wrong politician.  Is there A HOPE TO THE PHILIPPINES AND FILIPINOS?

Our hope does not lies on the political leaders. Our hope lies on us Filipino people.  Let us not depend much of our leaders. Let us develop a mind set and direction as people that would shape a good leader. A good leader comes from good people. Believe in your goodness as person. Let us believe in our goodness as people. Let us not wait others to start, let us start from our self.

Recalling and Imagening the Crucified Christ

 Subscribe in a reader

As I woke up early of Good Friday I  decided not to join the The Way of the Cross organized by our parish, instead I prayed the Rosary and meditating the suffering, death and crucifixion  of Jesus. I spend this good Friday as day of  recollection and prayer. I read few chapters of the book Finding God in All Things by William A. Barry, SJ.  This is a good book to anyone wants to make spiritual exercises for it contents spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius. In my reading I was lead to recall and imagine Christ who crucified on the cross. Before the crucified Jesus I ponder the great love of God who created me. The awesome God who became man that I may have eternal life. Now, here  He is crucified on the cross. I reflect myself and ask,

"  What I have done for Christ? What I am doing for Christ? What ought to do for Christ? AS I behold Christ in this plight, nailed on the cross, I shall ponder what presents itself to my mind " ( Spiritual Exercise n. 53 )

This meditation on the on the St. Ignatius leads me to see my own sinfulness and the mystery of sin. Sin which has two dimension. Personal and Social. Gazing intently to the crucified Jesus leads me to the purpose of God in creating me and of sharing His life. He wanted to exists with me. He has the BEST interest in me . He wants me to live with Him forever. This is the desire and the plan of God at the very beginning.

The great petition of  Jesus to the Father on the cross,  "FATHER, FORGIVE THEM FOR THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING" Luke 23:34 ,  echoes to my whole being . I will ask and accept God's forgiveness and I will forgive others.

Are You One of Them?

Almost everyone wants to succeed in life. To be in the line of successful people you cannot act like everyone else but stand out by yourselves.

It is said," successful people are outrageous". They are outrageous for God and in their mission.
